How the gold rate in Dubai is worked out
Gold is traded worldwide in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1 g). We take today's spot price – $4,061.30 – and convert it to AED per gram. Lower purities are priced in proportion: 22K is 22/24 of the 24K rate, 21K is 21/24 and 18K is 18/24.
Dubai jewellers follow the daily rates set by the Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group (DGJG), which track the international price. The same rate applies across the UAE.
The main places to buy are the Dubai Gold Souk in Deira and Gold & Diamond Park. Always check the purity hallmark, ask for the weight on the receipt and compare the making charge per gram between shops; 5% VAT is added at the till.

Frequently asked questions
What is the gold rate in Dubai today?
The table at the top shows today’s AED price for 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold per gram, tola, 10 grams and ounce. It is refreshed every hour from the international gold price.
Why is the jeweller’s price higher than this rate?
This is the value of the gold itself. Shops add a making charge – usually quoted per gram – that depends on the design, and 5% VAT applies to jewellery. Gold bars and coins sell much closer to the spot price.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold?
24K is 99.9% pure gold, 22K is 91.7%, 21K is 87.5% and 18K is 75%; the rest is other metals that make the jewellery harder. Most Gulf jewellery is 21K or 22K, while diamond settings are usually 18K.
How many grams is one tola?
One tola is 11.664 grams. Many jewellers in the Gulf, especially those serving South Asian customers, also quote prices per tola. One troy ounce is 31.1 grams.
Can tourists get the VAT back on gold jewellery in the UAE?
Yes. Visitors can claim back the VAT on jewellery bought from shops in the Planet tax-free scheme when leaving the UAE, minus a small fee. The refund covers the VAT on the making charge and the gold.
