Frequently asked questions
What is the Hijri date today in the UAE?
The date at the top of this page is today’s Hijri date in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, in English and Arabic. Both follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, confirmed each month by moon-sighting committees.
Why is the Islamic date different in India and Pakistan?
The new crescent is often seen a day later further east, so India, Pakistan and Bangladesh frequently start each month one day after the Gulf. Use the −1 setting to see their date.
Are the dates of Ramadan and Eid final?
No. Future dates are calculated from the Umm al-Qura calendar. The UAE Fatwa Council and the Saudi Supreme Court announce the start of Ramadan and the Eids after moon sighting on the 29th of the previous month, and the date can move by one day.
How many days are in an Islamic month?
Each Hijri month has 29 or 30 days, so the Islamic year is about 354 days – 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. That is why Ramadan comes about 11 days earlier every year.
